Water consumption
Currently, purification and recirculation of freshwater are developing rapidly
Fresh water of good quality is an important resource for all our production units.
Fresh water can originate as surface water or groundwater, although in recent years sea water has also become a potential source. At some geographical locations in Greenland, water is a scarce resource, while elsewhere there are ample water supplies. We will therefore focus our efforts on the geographical areas where it is most important to save water and work with alternative water resources.
Objective
We will work to reduce water consumption at Group level and develop and implement alternative water resources at locations where water is in short supply.
Status 2020
The Group’s water consumption was an average of 46 m3/tonnes of finished goods.
Goal 2022
Annual reduction of water consumption by 5%, measured at Group level.
Development of water resources at locations where water is in short supply.
Initiatives
- Production of fresh water approved for food production at locations where water is in short supply.
- Routine follow-up on water consumption.
- Launch of projects to reduce consumption.
Ambition 2030
Currently, purification and recirculation of freshwater are developing rapidly. Towards 2030, we will monitor this development and, if this is still appropriate, seek to achieve an overall reduction of water consumption by 20%, measured at Group level.
