25.03.2019

Initial steps taken towards obtaining MSC certification of New Foundland and Labrador lobster pot fishery.

Royal Greenland is proud to announce that Quin Sea Fisheries Limited of St. John's, a division of the Royal Greenland Group have commenced work on the Newfoundland and Labrador Lobster Pot Fishery Improvement Project (FIP). The project will be led by Quin Sea Fisheries and will seek partnerships to form a workgroup and to align and improve the management and science of the fishery with the ultimate goal of achieving Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) fishery sustainability certification.

Once assembled, the workgroup will focus on developing a plan of action to address the concerns identified by the recently completed MSC pre-assessment of the fishery. The plan of action is expected to initiate further improvements in research on lobsters, harvest strategy and data collection on bycatch species. The progress of the FIP will be reported transparent and publicly through www.fisheryprogress.org
