Regulatory control

We believe that the combination of internal quality control and external monitoring give the best guarantee for high quality seafood.

Royal Greenland takes on full responsibility for the food safety of all our products. The authorities are responsible for ensuring that we at Royal Greenland meet this requirement. The authorities are therefore responsible for coordinating food control throughout the entire process, from the sea to the table. The actual hands-on inspection is carried out by inspectors from the EU Member State food regions.

Monitoring of production sites

Like other food manufacturing companies, Royal Greenland's production sites are monitored on an ongoing basis. The frequency of control is set up according to rules in the different countries and in Denmark according to the sites performance. That is a part of the Smiley system.

"Smiley Scheme" in Denmark

In Denmark we have a so-called "Smiley Scheme". A Smiley is given by the food inspectors upon completed plant inspection. The "Smiley" indicates the extent to which a company complies with rules and regulations. The Smiley must be visible to the consumers at all times.

The "Smiley" scale:

No comments have been made in the most recent four inspection reports and during the last 12 months.

All of the results had top marks. The inspection gave rise to no comments.

The company has received one or more critical comments. For example, it has been notified that certain rules must be obeyed.

The company has received a written order or prohibition. For example, this could be a ban on selling goods that have been handled irresponsibly.

The company has been fined, reported to the police by the food region, or its authorisation to produce goods has been withdrawn.
