Royal Greenland is characterised by its roots in the Greenlandic community. This means that whenever you see Royal Greenland on an international level it also represents the public face of Greenland to the outside world. We know that all of our actions will have an effect, not just commercially, but also on the development of Greenlandic society.

Our commitment to the Greenlandic society

We are, by far, the biggest employer in Greenland and the Greenlandic society deeply depends on our existence and success. For this reason Royal Greenland does not only have a responsibility to manufacture quality seafood, but we also have a responsibility to uphold work in Greenland. Therefore we take a leading role in the development of commercial industry as well as the Greenlandic society.

Local Greenlandic Labour

When fishing in Greenlandic waters, Royal Greenland has an obligation to land about 25% of the seafood on Greenlandic ground in order to maintain the employment of the Greenlandic people. Royal Greenland has approximately 20 plants on the Greenlandic coast to fulfil this obligation and to process the seafood shortly after it is caught.

Public affairs

Royal Greenland is owned by the Greenlandic Home Rule Government. This means that Royal Greenland is obligated to act socially responsible in any decision we make and furthermore, the ownership creates a unique opportunity to establish contact with the government on fishing issues.

Climate change

Greenland is an arctic country and when speaking of climate change Greenland is often mentioned. In Royal Greenland we experience the effect of the changing climate on the seafood industry in Greenland every day. Our main focus is how to adapt to the changing conditions and how to develop the seafood industry and the way of the Greenlandic fishermen in the best way possible.
