Our fishing fleet
Our fishing fleet combines traditional fishing methods and modern factory trawlers.
At Royal Greenland we have our own fleet of fishing vessels in Greenland, which supply seafood of unparalleled quality from the Arctic Sea. The fleet combines traditional, Greenlandic fishing methods and top-modern factory trawlers that use the newest technology and fishing gear.
Our trawler fleet
Our trawler fleet consists of floating factories equipped to both catch and process prawns or fish such as cod, Greenland halibut or saithe. Shell-on prawns are cooked and frozen on board. So are fish that can be filleted for high quality frozen-at-sea products or headed, gutted and frozen for further processing on land. Our trawler fleet operates off the coasts of Greenland and in the Barents Sea.
Smaller vessels
In addition to the large trawlers we employ a number of smaller vessels, which operate in sheltered waters primarily along the west coast of Greenland. The smaller vessels only stay at sea for a few days and they deliver fresh, excellent raw material such as prawns and halibut to our land-based factories.
Partnerships and independent fishermen
As a supplement to our own fisheries, we take on partnerships with local vessels and independent fishermen. In the wintertime, when the sea is frozen, some fishermen use their dog sledges instead of their boats to transport their catch to our factories.
